2009 Early Mock Draft
Snake's Take |
| Round #2 | ||||||
| Team | Pick | Player | POS | Team | Reason | |
| Munk | 2.01 | Brian Westbrook | RB | Philadelphia | I'm really not used to Munk making 2 good picks in a row. Hell, I'm not used to him making 2 good picks in the same decade. He went boom or bust again. There are injury questions around Jackson and Westbrook but as long as they're not both hurt at the same time he'll be good to go. When they're both healthy he has arguably 2 of the top 5 RB's in fantasy football. To get these two at the bottom of the draft is amazing. Even a blind Chipmunk finds a nut once in a while. |
| BGG | 2.02 | Clinton Portis | RB | Washington | I like this pick better than the Jacobs pick (sorry, one more chance to voice that). Portis is only 27 even though it seems like he's been in the league for 10 years now. He's coming off back-to-back 16 game seasons with solid 1000 yard years. He's the bread and butter of that offense and should continue to put up solid points. |
| Ray | 2.03 | Reggie Wayne | WR | Indianapolis | Don't get my thumb wrong, I like Reggie Wayne as a WR but I think Randy Moss should have been the pick here. Tom Brady is back and the Pats are going to be primed for another sick offensive season. That being said, you can't argue with the consistent solid production you get with Wayne. This pick doesn't hurt Ray's team at all. |
| Dread | 2.04 | Randy Moss | WR | New England | This came with a bow on it. I guess everyone is worried about how rusty Brady will be or how old Randy Moss is getting. If he comes even close to what he did 2 years ago this is the type of pick that wins championships. Knowing how the Patriots are, you can bank on a total bounce-back and offensive explosion. This was a great pick here and I'm sure Dread did some fruity little dance at his computer desk after making it. |
| Hurrifan | 2.05 | Roddy White | WR | Atlanta | I like this pick. Roddy White has quietly put up monster numbers and it's obvious Matt Ryan and he have a Bromance. Ryan got better exponentially by the week and that only bodes well for White's future. You can bank on 85 grabs and 1300 yards. This should be the year the td's finally reach double-digits. Solid pick as the WR's are running off the draft board. |
| Comboz | 2.06 | Steve Slaton | RB | Houston | I was praying...literally facing towards the East, down on a mat praying Steve Slaton would fall to me in 2 picks. Comboz ruined that. This was a great pick. He finished really strong last year and once Houston believed in the kid, he was a workhorse. Expect more of the same as Houston's offense continues to explode this year. |
| Skull | 2.07 | L. Tomlinson | RB | San Diego | Once Slaton was gone I was hoping LT2 would fall to me but once again...no such luck. Everyone is jumping off the LT bandwagon which means you can get him in the middle of the 2nd round. That's value. The guy is a workout warrior who now has a giant Frito-Lay chip on his shoulder. Do you really doubt he can come back? Sproles will take a lot of totes but that only keeps LT fresh. More touchdowns this year than last...same yards. That's a bargain right here. Nice pick. |
| Snake | 2.08 | Frank Gore | RB | San Francisco | I really wanted to go Steve Smith here and have a sweet WR duo but if I passed on Gore I'd end up with some schlub at RB1 like Thomas Jones. I couldn't risk that in a league that requires 2 starting RB's. Gore is on a growing offense that is getting better. We all know how talented he is, he just needs some help around him. I think their offense is much better this year and Gore will have a nice season. He'll do as my RB1. |
| Bengrimm | 2.09 | Steve Smith | WR | Carolina | Great pick and value. Yeah the violent little smurf will probably punch someone in practice and get a 2 game suspension but he's still worth the trouble. The guy still cannot be covered by any 2 DB's and consistently torches teams deep. If Jake Delhomme ever removes his head from his hind end Smith's touchdowns should go back to double-digits. Another huge season is on tap. |
| Ice/Ragin | 2.10 | Marshawn Lynch | RB | Buffalo | I'm guessing the news of a 3 game suspension wasn't read before this pick. Lynch is a problem child with huge off-field concerns. He's one of those dillrods you don't want to trust the fate of your team with. He could rip off 120 yards and 2 td's, then get in a bar fight with some stripper named Bubbles the very same night. Now that he's probably only starting 13 games he loses even more value. Not a lot of great backs on the board at this time but this one is just too risky. |
| Thumper | 2.11 | Anquan Boldin | WR | Arizona | This is a solid pick as long as Boldin doesn't pull his "I'm holding out" B.S. IF Boldin is in camp and on Arizona, this is an awesome pick. Obviously it's a very early mock so we don't know all that type of information yet. With what we know right now, this is a great pick. That Arizona offense will be firing on all cylinders again through the air this year. |
| Denny | 2.12 | Thomas Jones | RB | NY Jets | No more Brett Favre = 2007 Thomas Jones. Just as a friendly reminder, that was 1119 yards and ONE whopping touchdown. There will be no threat of a passing game in NY this year. That means stacked lines against TJ and he's just not one of those backs that can make his own yards. I wouldn't expect 1000 yards and anything more than 5 touchdowns would be more shocking than Lindsey Lohan becoming a nun. |
