2009 Early Mock Draft
Snake's Take |
| Round #9 | ||||||
| Team | Pick | Player | POS | Team | Reason | |
| Denny | 9.01 | Heath Miller | TE | Pittsburgh | How do you pass on Winslow for Heath Miller? Tampa didn't pay him all that money to come run ghost routes. Miller is okay, but he's no KWII. Dropped the ball on this pick. |
| Thumper | 9.02 | Bryant Johnson | WR | Detroit | He's got the talent and now he'll face zero coverage as defenses all load up to try and cover Calvin Johnson. If he's ever going to put up stats, this will be the year. That being said...his QB will either be a rookie or Daunte Culpepper...ungood. |
| Ice/Ragin | 9.03 | Kellen Winslow | TE | Tampa Bay | Awesome pick! He was brought into Tampa to be a weapon. Byron Leftwich is a solid QB and KWII will end up being his main target. Steal of a deal here...kind of kicking myself for not picking him myself earlier. |
| Bengrimm | 9.04 | Torry Holt | WR | Jacksonville | Big Game still has some gas in the tank and now he'll be the clear #1 target in Jacksonville. Nice pick here. |
| Snake | 9.05 | LeSean McCoy | RB | ?? | This will depend on where he lands but rumors have him going to Arizona. If that's true, this is a great pick. If he ends up in a RBBC or behind a stud, my roll of the dice dies. Jury's still out... | - |
| Skull | 9.06 | Kevin Walter | WR | Houston | Skull is stocking up on solid producing WR's in these later rounds. I'm going to have to talk trade with him! hahahaha Walter will hang solid numbers working opposite AJ. Nice pick. |
| Comboz | 9.07 | Pittsburgh | D | Huh? cricket chirp...cricket chirp. WAY too early for a defense. You can't predict how a D will really do from year-to-year. You can almost get a good D off the wire every season. Should have waited 5 rounds on this pick. |
| Hurrifan | 9.08 | Willis McGahee | RB | Baltimore | In theory this is a good pick however, McGahee is on the decline. Ray Rice is a better runner right now and Le'Ron McClain is the obvious red zone guy. That leaves McGahee with 8-10 carries a game. Color me unimpressed. |
| Dreadlock | 9.09 | Carson Palmer | QB | Cincinnati | Great roll of the dice here. I guess we all forgot how good Palmer is. If his arm is back to health, this ends up being a huge steal. He's got Ocho and Coles to throw to still and their offense airs it out when he's healthy. Nice pick. |
| Ray | 9.10 | Ben Roethlisberger | QB | Pittsburgh | Good value pick this late. Ray was able to get his starting QB...and a decent one at that all the way in the 9th. Big Ben had a bit of a dropoff last year, he should get back closer to 07 numbers this season. He and Holmes are starting to click (you watched the Super Bowl right?) and Hines Ward is still around. Solid pick. |
| BGG | 9.11 | Chris Chambers | WR | San Diego | He's just never going to live up to the hype. To have the talent he has, flash it every now and again and yet fail to put up a monster season is maddening. He's going to have a few 100 yard games and a handful of touchdowns but he's never going to be a stud. He's receiving option 4 in SD (Gates, LT, V-Jack come first). No thanks. |
| Munk | 9.12 | Visanthe Shiancoe | TE | Minnesota | I hate typing this guy's name...couldn't his name be Vince Shoe? Seriously! Visanthe? That must be eye-talian. This guy put up monster numbers down the stretch last year. You have to believe that was his coming out party and this year will be his true breakout season. I'm starting to think Chippy has someone else drafting for him. |
