The scoop

QB Christian Ponder Of course he is more of a Dynasty league format option, but Ponder will get the opportunity to sink or swim this season and show what he brings to the table. With some experience, he could prove to be a decent option down the road. He has the tools around him to succeed. If you have the room and the format is right, add Ponder and play the waiting game - if could pay off in 2012 and beyond.

RB Javon Ringer Well, Chris Johnson isn't exactly living up to his end of the bargain for fantasy owners or the Tennessee Titans owners in 2011. I can't imagine they will shelve their big investment, but a reality shock on the bench might to him some good. That would bring Javon Ringer to the forefront, and with a 102 total yard performance on Sunday, he's more than earned a shot. Note to Chris Johnson: YOUR HOLDOUT IS OVER, YOU GOT PAID. YOU CAN PLAY NOW. Unreal.

RB Chris Ogbonnaya His numbers aren't overly impressive, but due to circumstances, Ogbonnaya may become fantasy relevant sooner as opposed to later. With injuries to RB's Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty, he could very well be the Brown's starting option for the next week or so. A week 9 matchup against Houston is mildly attractive, so keep an eye on the injury news and act accordingly if need be!

RB Roy Helu In the shutout loss to the Buffalo Bills, it was painfully obvious that starting RB Ryan Torain wasn't the answer. Since this was the FIRST time a Mike Shanahan coached team was shut out, look for him to shake this up a bit as the Redskins host San Francisco in Week 9.

RB Michael Bush As of the time I typed this up, RB Darren McFadden is still struggling a bit with a sprained foot, and was unable to practice Monday. Hopefully you grabbed Bush last week as he was more likely to fly under the radar due to the Raiders Week 8 bye. This week he'll draw much more interest, especially if McFadden's foot woes continue.

RB Chris Ivory Admittedly he gained only 18 yards rushing in the upset loss to the St. Louis Rams, but Ivory should still be on your radar. Recently activated off the PUP list this past week, Ivory is a solid runner and while his future may not be in New Orleans, he could very well land somewhere and be productive. If you are in a keeper or dynasty league, he is worth considering. Also bear in mind with the Saints injury issues at running back, Ivory is a nice ace to have up the sleeve.

RB Brandon Jacobs Starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw missed some time and was able to finish the game, but he did hurt his foot – the one with a screw in it. Never good to hurt the foot with the screw in it!! Jacobs is wisely gone from the wires in most leagues, but if by chance he is available, he would be worth taking on in the event that Bradshaw's foot is well, screwed.

RB Tashard Choice He was claimed off waivers by Coach Shanahan, replacing Tim Hightower and hysterically muddying the running back waters in DC. That said, he is definitely worth taking a shot at if you have the room, as the current guys don't exactly have a strangle-hold on the starting gig. This folks, might be interesting!

RB Curtis Brinkley The Philadelphia native was pretty much an unknown prior to Monday nights matchup with San Diego, but he certainly made the most of his opportunity, filling in for an injured Mike Tolbert. While I wouldn't get overly excited in most leagues, he is most definitely worth stashing away in dynasty leagues, especially when considering the battles with inconsistency and the injury bug that has plagued his teammates.

WR Antonio Brown He has been mentioned a few times, and while I agree he is one of many downfield options for the Steelers, he is available in a lot of leagues. With WR Emmanuel Sanders being wildly inconsistent, and Hines Ward slowing down by age and injury, Brown is definitely making his mark alongside Mike Wallace. Whenever a WR is targeted 15 times, it is time to stand up and take notice...

WR Jonathan Baldwin Have to like what you saw from this kid on Monday night against the Chargers. The first round pick out of Pittsburgh really made a splash with over 80 yards and a touchdown in prime time. He has an appealing combination of size and power with nice soft hands. Baldwin is worth taking a flier on in re-draft leagues - definitely worth making a play for in dynasty formats. Simple to see, the kid has skills.

WR Laurent Robinson When you are the third option at receiver but bring with you above average skills, the attention paid to the top two receivers will in many cases open up things downfield. With Miles Austin and Dez Bryant garnering the lion's share of attention from opposing secondaries, Robinson has the size, speed and strength to make the most of defensive mismatches in his favor. QB Tony Romo looked Robinson's way 8 times, and he grabbed 5 of them for 103 yards and a touchdown. His production will be inconsistent, but for a bye week option, he'll fit the bill perfectly.

Braylon Edwards Ok, so he only grabbed 4 passes for 42 yards. However, I am a big fan of the guys returning from injury. In many cases they are the forgotten, the underestimated and the ignored, and could make a late season impact for their team as well as yours. Right off the bat, Edwards is easily the most talented wide receiver on the Niners roster. Grab him now, and bask in the glow of genius come week 12.

WR Jason Avant Like you see with Robinson above, if you are a #3 option but with decent talent, the attention paid to the first two receivers will open up plenty of opportunities due to matchup issues. Jason Avant is a skilled receiver who will get downfield looks from QB Michael Vick especially with defenses focusing on WR's Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.

WR Michael Crabtree Well, this was at least close to what I was after from Crabtree when WR Josh Morgan went on the IR with the broken leg. He is a talent, just struggling to put it together. This is a good start, keep a close eye on how he works with fellow WR Braylon Edwards.

WR Eric Decker / Eddie Royal Ok, my heat on Tim Tebow is well documented, but if he's going to throw, he certainly seems to have taken a liking to Eric Decker and the recently returned Eddie Royal. Bear in mind their performances will be as erratic as Tebow's, but it is hard to ignore 25 targets between the two of them.

TE Heath Miller It's not every week you play the matador pass defense that is the New England Patriots, but if it rekindles the solid relationship between Big Ben and his tight end Heath Miller, all the better. The sure handed tight end was targeted 9 times and came through with 85 yards receiving. With the Steelers swing to more of a passing offense, Miller will be a popular target without question.

TE Scott Chandler The moment I write a guy off, he jumps through hoops to prove me wrong. Ok, so maybe I don't have that type of influence, I realize I am not the Roger Ebert of fantasy football, but I'll run with my slight lapse of delusion of grandeur. It makes me happy. You know what else makes me happy? Two receptions for 35 yards, and both resulting in touchdowns. That my friends, is fantasy Tight End GOLD.

TE Brent Celek These are the type performances that vaulted Celek into fantasy relevancy a few years ago. It is certainly pleasant to see he is still capable of such games. He made some great catches, including one in the back of the endzone, fought for extra yardage and played with solid emotion. I hope the Eagles noticed and keep him involved in the game plan.
